Case Study

Wigan MBC Records Store

‘The service provided from Metalrax Storage has been excellent and I would not hesitate to work with them again in the future’.

Wigan MBC Records StoreThe Client

With a population of 300,000 across an area of 77 square miles, Wigan is one of the largest metropolitan districts in England. The borough is based around the two main towns of Wigan and Leigh, and is the most westerly district of the county of Greater Manchester.

The Challenge

Prior to the project being completed, Wigan MBC stored the records and deeds in different locations around the Town Hall. Thus the main aim of the project was to create a centralised records store with an increased capacity. Metalrax Storage won the tender for the project as the solution offered the best capacity vs budget by making use of the existing shelving already on site.

Wigan MBC Records StoreThe Solution

In order to deliver a solution that met all the requirements of the council, Metalrax Storage re-used the existing shelving by dismantling it and placing it onto new mobile bases. This not only gave the council a more efficient layout but doubled their original storage capacity.

As part of the project, the specialist team went in before the shelving was dismantled to decant the records and files. They were then transferred to a secure storage facility whilst the shelving was dismantled and re-installed. Once the shelving was back in place the files were then re-organised into a more efficient order before being loaded back onto the shelves.

Sarah Jones, Facilities Officer in charge of the project commented ‘The service provided from Metalrax Storage has been excellent and I would not hesitate to work with them again in the future’.
